About Our Company
Our Company
Lingo Land was founded in 2022 by Miz and Salah, who were inspired by their father's work as an interpreter and cultural adviser for the US Army in Afghanistan in 2012. Their father's fluency in Pashto, Dari, and Urdu was utilized by the US Army to achieve their objectives of liberating the war-torn country, which had been under Taliban rule since 1996.
The family fled Afghanistan when the capital city of Kabul fell, seeking refuge in the UK along with hundreds of thousands of other vulnerable asylum seekers. Although Afghanistan was liberated by the US Army in 2001, it fell back under Taliban rule in 2021, causing another wave of migrants seeking safety and normalcy, which we take for granted in the west.
Afghanistan has a low level of English literacy, presenting an opportunity for Misbah, one of the founders, to launch Lingo Land after recognizing the massive demand for translation services. In the eight months since its inception, the company has employed 6,000 interpreters proficient in the dialects of Afghanistan and, most recently, Ukrainian, after the illegal invasion by Russia.
The company strives to support and assist the most affected LEPS.
